Young Artists are Invited to Compete in Nature Art Contest

March 24, 2025 – If you know any young artists with an interest in nature, here’s a chance for them to stretch their creative muscles by participating in the Charlie Corbeil Youth Art Contest and Youth Conservation Awards. Sponsored by Viera Voice, the contest entry deadline is April 9 and the winners will be announced at a later date.

The contest has three categories — Art, Photography and Poetry. The age range is from kindergarten to 12th grade. Art can consist of painting, drawing or taking photographs of wildlife. Photography is taking photos of Florida wildlife. Poetry emphasizes creative writing about wildlife or conservation.

Charlie Corbeil was a well-known conservationist and photographer who was a frequent visitor to the Ritch Grissom Memorial Wetlands in Viera. Located between the Moccasin Island Tract of the River Lakes Conservation Area  and the Brevard Zoo , the Viera Wetlands are popular among birders, photographers and eco-tourists.

After Corbeil passed away, his widow honored him by beginning the Youth Art Contest. Charlotte Corbeil says the contest encourages children’s art endeavors and hopes to raise awareness on how to protect Florida wildlife and its natural habitat.

Approximately $750 in prizes will be given out to the young student artists. First-, second- and third-place awards will be allocated in each category and age group.
